Representing the last year of the "C1" (Corvette, 1st generation), the 1962 Corvette is special for a few other reasons. That year marked the debut of the iconic 327 V8, which replaced the 283 and offered even stronger performance than its respected predecessor. The styling was also refined as it was now monochromatic and more cohesive with the de-chromed character lines on the front fenders and doors now matching those on the rear quarters. Here we have a beautiful three-owner 1962 Corvette that has been very well cared for since new and it shows. The first owner had the car until 1982, having enjoyed and maintained the car for 20 years. The second owner had a body-off restoration done 16 years into his ownership (in 1998) that included an engine rebuild, rechromed bumpers and other bright trim, new carpets, rebuilt instruments and “Wonderbar” radio, and a high-quality respray in correct Honduras Maroon. Note that the car’s all-original body was stripped down to bare fiberglass for the respray and it looks fantastic. The Corvette also received a new soft top and new carpets in addition to other items detailed in the stack of restoration receipts seen in the car’s folder. After enjoying the Corvette for 36 years, that second owner decided to sell the car. Before doing so, he had the Corvette gone through from top to bottom to ensure it was in optimum condition for the sale. Highlights of that refresh included a new master cylinder, new carburetor and a new OEM-style exhaust system. To say this Corvette has curb appeal would be an understatement. The paint gleams, as do the bumpers and various emblems. The spinner-style factory wheel covers wearing Goodyear whitewalls adds the perfect punctuation mark to this head-turning C1. A color-matched hardtop also goes with the car, making this a desirable “two-top” C1. The interior looks great as well, with all its correct components intact, including that original “Wonderbar” signal-seeking AM radio. The upholstery, door panels and carpet are in fine shape, and the white soft top is virtually new. Under the hood is the mostly original/matching-numbers 327/250-horsepower V8. Note that the short block was replaced at a Chevrolet dealer with a “CE” factory replacement short block in the mid-1970s. It runs through the original Powerglide automatic on to the 3.08-geared rear end. The suspension and brakes were refreshed as needed. As a result, the Corvette starts, runs, handles and brakes very well. And the soundtrack provided by the dual exhaust just adds to the enjoyment of piloting this sleek, well-sorted classic Corvette. Documentation includes the original owner’s manual as well as a folder full of receipts showing the meticulous care the Corvette has had.
