Having achieved iconic status thanks to the lowrider community and their combination of sharp styling and plentiful powertrain options, Chevy's 1963 full-size Bel Air and Impala models have long been favorites of car enthusiasts who like plenty of room to go with the vroom. Here we have a rock-solid Bel Air coupe with very presentable paint and chrome/stainless-steel trim on its arrow-straight body. Color-matched Rally wheels with chrome center caps and trim rings add a tasteful accent to the Bel Air. The underside and the trunk floor are likewise clean and solid. Inside, the original plain bench seat interior was upgraded to that of the Impala SS, including the front bucket seats and the matching door panels. The back seat was removed while a partial Impala SS' console houses the 4-speed. An old-school, steering column-mounted tach as well as an underdash trio of auxiliary gauges help to keep tabs on the big V8. Under the hood, rather than a weak inline six that the car likely had originally, there is now big horsepower in the form of the iconic 409 V8. Though we don't know the exact specs, the 409 sounds like it has a beefy cam and, judging by the way it pulls hard through all four gears, makes plenty of power. Manual steering and brakes give the full engagement that add to the fun of wheeling an old-school muscle car around. Note that the brakes were upgraded to a dual-cylinder setup for added safety. Out on the road, the strong 409 V8 has no problem putting you back in the seat when you step into it and yank open the secondaries, while the 4-speed gearbox shifts smoothly and the brakes feel strong.
