Officially introduced in April of 1964, the Ford Mustang was a smash success right out of the gate...or should we say corral? These early Mustangs (produced March through August of 1964) were officially early 1965 models, but became known as 1964 1/2 models due to both their early production and their differences between Mustangs that were produced after that point, such as the generator being replaced by an alternator. Here we have an amazing example of an early Mustang convertible that checks all the boxes -- condition, colors, powertrain. This car was the subject of a high-end, ground-up restoration that likely produced a classic Mustang that is better than new in terms of fit and finish. Covered in beautiful Caspian Blue, the arrow-straight and rock-solid body looks fantastic. Along with the gleaming chrome and stainless-steel trim, the white convertible top and the chrome styled steel wheels (that were introduced as an option on the '66 Mustang) fitted with modern Hankook performance tires add even more visual punch. The underside is so clean that it earns our "Lasagna Car" status, meaning it's so clean we'd eat our Sunday pasta off of it. Inside, it looks as if you've stepped into the Mustang brochure, as the interior similarly looks factory fresh. A small but worthwhile liberty was taken as the seats were fitted with the optional two-tone "Pony" style upholstery which looks great with the car's exterior colors. Everything from the dash top to the carpet is in pristine condition. Under the hood is the factory 260 V8 that is accented with a chrome open-element air cleaner and valve covers. As with the rest of the car, the ultra-clean engine compartment looks like a page lifted out of the brochure. The factory 3-speed manual gearbox along with manual steering and brakes adds to the fun, engaging character of driving this Mustang. Underway, the car runs tight, smooth and strong. The small but peppy V8 sounds great, especially while winding it up as you run through the gears on your favorite back road.
