We get a lot of mid-year Corvette roadsters here at Carroll Street. We love these cars and so do many of our customers. For most enthusiasts, the preferred ones are ’65s to ‘67s, as they came with four-wheel disc brakes. This Rally Red 1966 Corvette Roadster is a very nice example of a mid-year roadster that you can be proud to own, show at Cars and Coffee meet-ups and enjoy driving without breaking the bank. Originally a Nassau Blue car, this Corvette was given a high-quality color change to Rally Red some time ago. Look up close and you’ll notice very straight body panels with even panel gaps and very presentable paint with a few minor imperfections/touch-ups as shown in the photos. The chrome and bright trim are in nice condition, as is the original tinted glass. The headlights are “T3”s. The soft top has no tears and the plastic window is not yellowed but the top, though functional, is showing its age in spots. A set of reproduction knock-off style wheels (aka “bolt-ons”) fitted with Hancook Optima radials add more pizzazz to this sharp mid-year ‘vette. The Corvette’s clean underside is impressive, with no scaling on the frame and it lends further testament to this being a low-mileage (79,659 miles indicated) and well-cared for example. Hop in behind the simulated walnut wheel (with no cracks) and you’ll note nearly everything is in fine condition. The seats and door panels as well as the instruments and controls all look and work great. Even the window winders work smoothly. The original AM/FM radio and power antenna are still present. There are no cracks atop the dash but there are two small tears on the right side of the center stack. The carpet is in great shape and features a pair of original style floor mats atop it. You’ll note the spare tire carrier is gone, but we can source a replacement. Under the hood is a 1968 327/350 horsepower V8 that’s matched to the original 4-speed gearbox and 3.36-geared rear end. An Edelbrock “Torquer” intake as well as a chambered exhaust add a few more horses. That rumbling exhaust provides a perfect ‘60s soundtrack without being obnoxious. Power steering and power disc brakes (recently serviced) further add to the enjoyment of wheeling this powerful, classic roadster around. Overall, we’d rate this Corvette as a nice, high-driver-quality car. For more information or to schedule time to see this sharp C2, just give us a call at 603-627-5595.
