The compact Dodge Dart of the mid-1960s was typically seen in no-frills, basic transportation spec. But for those who wanted to spice things up there was the Dart GT. Sporting added chrome trim and bucket seats, the GT also offered a peppy 273 V8 that could send the power to the rear wheels via an optional 4-speed stick or 3-speed automatic transmission. Here we have one of these rare Dodge Darts -- a 1966 Dart GT that must be seen and driven to be believed. The recipient of a comprehensive high-end restoration, this black on black Dart GT features the 273 2-barrel V8 and a few other notable options, including the center console and automatic transmission. Highlighting the rock-solid and arrow-straight body panels, the meticulous black paint looks like you could dip your hand into it. The trunk is likewise in great shape, as is the very clean and dry underside. Nicely accenting the car are the various GT emblems and brightwork, which all have a brilliant shine and the car is perfectly accented with redline radials wearing factory "dog dish" hubcaps. Inside the Dart GT, everything from the headliner down to the carpets as well as the door panels and plush upholstery looks and feels like the car just rolled out of the showroom. As with the exterior, the various chrome accents (such as on the dash) are stunning, and the instruments are clear and bright as well. An aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel is a nice upgrade. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio system is ready to play the Beatles, the Beach Boys and The Mamas and the Papas when you're out on a cruise. Under the hood, the engine bay and the 273 V8 it contains is all as clean as the rest of the car. Fire it up and it sounds more like 383 cubes are in there, as the dual exhaust gives it the proper muscle car soundtrack. Underway, the engine pulls strong with the TorqueFlite automatic providing smooth gear changes. Manual brakes and steering add to the engaging fun of driving this junior muscle car around.
