The Chevelle of the mid-1960s is a great example of how well Chevrolet hit its stride during the first muscle car era. The styling of the ’66 and ’67 was spot on with its clean proportions and semi-fastback rear roof panels. The Chevelle could be optioned with the high-performance “L79” version of the 327 V8. In the Corvette, this powerhouse was rated at 350 hp while in the Chevelle it was 325 hp. Most folks think it was underrated in the Chevelle so as not to step on the Corvette’s nor the base SS 396’s toes. Here we have an amazing find, a 1967 Chevelle Malibu coupe that came factory-equipped with that rare L79 327 V8 along with a Muncie M21 4-speed and 3.55-geared, 12-bolt Positraction rear end. Still wearing its original paint, the body of this Chevelle boasts all-original body panels as well as the bright trim (minus the grille, which was replaced) and glass. The interior is likewise in excellent condition from the headliner down the carpet as well, with the seats and arm rests recently reupholstered in the proper factory style. Options include the buckets and console, deluxe seat belts, tinted windshield, gauge package with “blinker” tach and an AM radio. Power steering was added recently to make driving more enjoyable. Under the hood the L79 is all original except for the block (which was replaced with a factory replacement when the camshaft broke), Cam Dynamics camshaft and the water pump. The potent small block was refreshed when the block was replaced, only has around 7,000 miles put on it since and runs smooth and strong, with the 4-speed stick adding to the fun as it sends the power to the rebuilt rear end. Out on the road, this sharp Chevelle runs awesome with plenty of power along with an easy-to-handle demeanor. Plenty of documentation accompanies the car, as does a small photo album showing the car’s impeccable maintenance.
