Here we have a rare treat for Mopar fans, or anyone that can appreciate a sharp muscle car that you won't see a dozen of as you would with a Camaro or Mustang when you're checking out the rides at your local Cars and Coffee. Of the 963 Formula S fastbacks with the 383 V8 engine built that year, this car is just one of 550 equipped with the 4-speed transmission. And yes, this is a numbers-matching powertrain. This body style not only looks cool, but features a massive cargo area behind the rear seat that grows even larger when you fold down the rear seat. Being a Formula S means you also get a more firmly tuned suspension as well as a front anti-sway bar in addition to the eye candy that includes chrome hood accents proudly declaring this car packs the 383 V8. Look over this sleek Barracuda and you'll see impressively solid and straight body panels. The underside is so clean and dry you could eat off it. Originally Mist Green metallic, the car was resprayed another Plymouth green color -- Forest Green metallic which looks stunning with the white Formula S stripes. A set of old school Cragar S/S wheels wrapped in B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As complete the amazing curb appeal. Should you prefer the "as it rolled out of the factory look", note that a set of newer factory-issue steel wheels wearing correct factory "Sport" wheel covers and newer Coker radial redlines also go with the car. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior with its crisp, correct upholstery whose green color is a nice complement to the body's eye-catching hue. This car also features the optional bucket seats and console as well as full instruments including a tach. Under the hood, the "Super Commando" 383 V8 is numbers-matching and sounds awesome whether at idle or when you're running through the gears of the 4-speed gearbox that sends the power to a 3:23 Sure Grip rear end. Note that the car does have a Mopar electronic ignition upgrade and that it originally had a "peg leg" rear end which was upgraded to the Sure Grip during the restoration. Out on the road, this Formula S pulls clean and hard and shifts smoothly. With manual steering and manual front disc brakes, there is a feel of the road you don't experience with the typically over-boosted power steering and brakes of the era. Testament to the car's overall quality is a lack of rattles and squeaks as well as the way the Barracuda cruises arrow straight on the highway.
