The 1969 Camaro Z/28 was (and is) for many car enthusiasts the one to have. Combining that handsome, one-year-only styling with the feisty, high-winding 302 cubic-inch V8 (that was exclusive to the Z/28) was a marriage made in car guy heaven. Bred to participate in American sports car racing where it enjoyed great success, the Z/28 also came equipped with quicker steering and firmer suspension calibrations and was only available with a four-speed stick. The pristine example you see here proudly wears its correct Hugger Orange paint with black Z/28 stripes and a black vinyl top. That high-quality, two-stage respray was part of a high-end restoration which also included NOS GM rear quarter panels. The rest of the car’s sheet metal, including the floors and trunk pan, are rock solid and original. The body panels are arrow straight with uniform gaps and the underside is impressively clean, while the various chrome and stainless trim are likewise in excellent condition. A set of 15-inch Rally wheels fitted with BF Goodrich Radial T/As complete the considerable curb appeal. Swing open the door and you’ll think you stepped into the 1969 Camaro brochure, as the interior looks factory fresh and is loaded with options, including the Custom interior, Rosewood sport steering wheel and center console with full gauges. There’s also the correct Hurst 4-speed shifter while the trunk has the jack assembly and spare tire and there are two sets of keys. Under the cowl-induction hood and ready to provide plenty of thrills is a date-code-correct (though not original to the car) DZ 302 featuring 11:1 compression, forged steel GM crankshaft, a 30/30 off-road camshaft, a “snowflake” Winters intake and a “4053” 780 cfm Holley 4-barrel carburetor. A set of Doug’s ceramic-coated headers contribute to the Z/28’s awesome soundtrack, while a set of factory exhaust manifolds and a complete chambered exhaust go with the car. That 302 powerhouse starts, idles and runs great, while the Muncie M21 4-speed shifts smoothly and sends the power to the original, 3.73-geared Positraction rear end. The power front disc brakes and the quick-ratio power steering add to the enjoyment of wheeling around this classic high-performance Camaro. Checking all the boxes for condition, color and features, this 1969 Z/28 presents a rare opportunity, not to mention a lot of fun.
