Although the third-generation Corvette (aka the “C3”) was produced from 1968 through 1982, few versions hold as much sway among Corvette enthusiasts as the early ones. This was, after all, when the C3’s performance was at its peak, and the exciting engine options included the legendary 427 big block in its various forms. Within these first few years, many C3 Corvette fans consider the 1969 model year the one to get, as the first year (’68) C3 had a few build quality and overheating bugs that were largely resolved for 1969. Here we have a LeMans Blue 1969 Corvette with the “L36” 390-horsepower, 427 cubic-inch big block under the hood. This beautiful, NCRS-certified matching-numbers example was the recipient of a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration to the highest standards. A photo album as well as a DVD of the restoration accompanies the car, as does a tank sticker, scoring sheets and other documentation. The Corvette has won over 150 trophies (including a few First Places and Best of Shows as recently as 2019) as well as the prestigious Second Flight awards and is now ready to be NCRS Top Flighted. An early-build 1969, this Corvette was ordered with that big block V8, side-mounted exhaust, “M21” 4-speed manual transmission, Positraction rear end, power steering, power brakes, front fender louver trim, leather seating and AM/FM radio. The LeMans Blue paint gleams, as does the chrome bumpers and trim. As expected, it is arrow straight and the correct Rally wheels look fantastic fitted with Goodyear white letter radials. The underside is so clean that we’d eat lasagna off of it. The interior is just as impressive with its clear gauges and supple leather upholstery. The factory Bright Blue interior is a nice, and to our eyes a more attractive, choice compared to the usual black. Under the hood it looks as if the car just rolled out of the showroom and that broad shouldered big block fills out the engine compartment. The car starts quickly and runs great, running smoothly (and very quickly, if you choose) through the 4-speed’s gears. To say this car is fun to drive is an understatement. The sound and fury of a late-‘60s 427 when stepped into is only matched by the thrill of its rapid acceleration. All told, this is an incredible, well-documented and highly-awarded example of a 1969 Corvette 427 coupe.
