Those who follow the classic car/truck market likely realize that the so-called “Square Bodies” General Motor’s pickups are very popular. The term comes from the squared-off styling of the 1967 through 1987 Chevrolet/GMC pickups, what many consider to be the proper look for a pickup truck. The 1967-1972 generation, is typically the most sought after due to their more classic looks and more powerful engines. Here we have an early Square Body, specifically a 1971 Chevrolet Fleetside 4x4 which has been upgraded with a lift kit, a powerful 454 V8 and more modern seating. Look down the sides, and you’ll see this truck’s body panels are arrow straight. That solid sheet metal is painted a sharp Silver, while a 6-inch lift kit and 15-inch chrome American Racing wheels fitted with beefy Cooper all-terrain tires round out the Chevy’s considerable curbside presence. Underneath, the pickup is rock solid. Inside, rather than a flat vinyl bench seat there is now a plush cloth, 60/40 split bench with a fold-down center armrest. A Grant GT steering wheel looks and feels much better than the old thin-rimmed plastic two-spoker. Note there is no audio system. That burly 454 under the hood was just rebuilt and boasts a high-performance cam, an Edelbrock intake and carb setup, and an MSD ignition. Rather than an old 3-speed automatic transmission, there is now a 4-speed (700R4) automatic that provides better performance and fuel mileage. Fire it up and it sounds very healthy, an impression that’s confirmed when you put it in Drive and step into it. The dual exhaust system sounds great. Of course there are power steering and power front disc brakes to allow one to easily handle this beast. Reduced for a quick sale! The trucks body, suspension, and 454 engine have been lifted, altered, and modified. This truck is an absolutely great deal .
