Description

The third-generation (1970-1974) Plymouth Barracuda is one of the big players in the '60s-'70s muscle car game, especially the higher-performance "'Cuda" versions. And within that generation, the '70 and '71 are the most sought after due to their notably stronger performance. Although they are mostly similar, the '71 sports an arguably cooler design with its quad headlights, more aggressive grille and shark-like fender gills. Here we have a real-deal 1971 'Cuda 340 that has undergone a no-expense-spared, frame-off / rotisserie restoration. Top to bottom, front to back and inside and out, this 'Cuda is an incredible example of this muscle car icon. The arrow-straight and pristine body wears gorgeous and correct Sherwood Green paint which is accented with the optional shaker hood, fender gills, beautiful chrome/stainless-steel trim and a set of 15-inch factory-optional Rallye wheels wearing BF Goodrich Radial T/As. Note that the original wheels with their "dog dish" hubcaps are included with the car). The underside earns our "Lasagna Car" designation as it is so clean that we'd eat our Sunday pasta off of it. Inside the 'Cuda is similarly factory-fresh from the headliner down to the carpet, including the dash, door panels and upholstery. There are some very desirable options here as well, including the Rallye instrument cluster and the center console, which houses the too-cool Pistol Grip shifter. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio system provides the tunes. Under the shaker is a NOM stroked 340 that's even more potent than what the car started out with, as it sports (painted to look original) aluminum heads and various other performance tweaks that result in a claimed (by the restorer) output of around 500 horsepower. A quick run through a few gears provides plenty of proof. Adding to the engaging thrill of its performance is the correct 4-speed manual gearbox with that Pistol Grip shifter that sends the power to the 3.91-geared Sure Grip rear end. Power brakes (upgraded to front discs) and manual steering round out the chassis specs of this old-school muscle car.
