Description

With its winning combination of style and performance, it is no wonder that the 1979 Trans Am was the most popular for the second-generation's 12-year production run. Indeed, Car and Driver declared it the best-handling American car for 1979. And yes, that comparison test included the Corvette. Here we have a gorgeous 1979 Trans Am with just 53k original miles. The car just came back from a $1,700 detail at the car spa which included a cut-and-buff of the car's jet black and mostly original paint. A set of handsome 15"x8" snowflake wheels wearing Cooper Cobra radials add a nice punctuation mark to this car's impressive curb appeal. Look close and you'll see arrow-straight body panels as well as doors that line up properly and open and shut crisply. As this very low mileage and pampered car was Ziebarted (anti-rust application) when new, the underside is also rock solid. Inside, the original interior looks fantastic and the Trans Am's standard "Formula" steering wheel and engine-turned finish on the dash are iconic and put the Trans Am a cut above most everything else of that year. Key options include air conditioning and a factory AM/FM/cassette sound system. It is pretty rare to find one of these without an aftermarket stereo in the dash. Van Halen cassette not included, however. Under the shaker hood is the original 403 4-barrel V8 that sends the power to the rear wheels through the 3-speed automatic transmission. Out on the road, this Trans Am is a smooth cruiser and thanks to a pair of "Quiet-Flow" mufflers, sounds great when you lean into the 403. As these cars were known for their athletic handling, it's a joy to take this T/A through a winding road. As it is getting harder and harder to find a nice, original and low-mileage example of these cars, this one presents a rare opportunity to get into one without paying the crazy money that the auction houses get. Please call Carroll Street Auto at (603) 627-5595 for further information or to schedule time to view this sharp 1979 Trans Am. Financing is offered through our approved lender, trades are welcome and enclosed shipping can be arranged.
