In the mid-1980s, few cars had the presence and street cred of the Camaro Z28 IROC-Z. It may have not been quite as rapid in a straight line as a 5.0-liter Mustang (until the Z’s available 5.7-liter V8 debuted) but it was still plenty quick. A twisty road was another story, however, where the IROC’s beefed up suspension, quick steering, excellent balance and fat 16-inch tires helped it easily show the Mustang how it’s done. One could argue that looks fell in the IROC’s favor as well, with its low, sleek body accented with ground effects, a louvered hood, tasteful lower striping and 16-inch alloy wheels. On offer here is a 1987 Camaro IROC-Z. This is a very solid base from which one could either customize or restore the car. Sharp-eyed enthusiasts will note that the hood and the front panel were replaced with those from a standard Camaro but the body is rock solid and was given a single, high-quality respray. The car is equipped with the optional T-tops, for that open-air experience when the mood strikes, and it also still retains its factory 16-inch alloy wheels that wear new Michelin performance tires. The interior could use restoration but is useable as is. The original seats were replaced with optional sport seats in blue from another Camaro Z28, the front kick panels are missing, and the steering wheel is from a Trans Am. Other mods include aftermarket gauges and a Sony AM/FM/CD audio system. This car was loaded with factory options whose highlights include A/C (has been removed), P/W, P/L, P/hatch release, tilt wheel and cruise control. Under the hood is a vintage 350 V8 with a 4-barrel carb, headers and a dual exhaust system. A strut tower brace has been fitted as well. There’s quite a bit more power on tap than the original 305 V8 put out and it sounds great. The power goes to the rear wheels via a “700R4” four-speed automatic. All-in-all, this IROC runs and handles great. With third generation (1982-1992) Camaro values on a big rise the last few years, restoring this car to its former glory would make an excellent first car for the entry level enthusiast. This IROC Z28 has had some really cool modifications, such as, Hotchkis suspension, HD sway bars, F41 suspension, custom exhaust, Michelin performance tires and more. The body and Paint is considered in very good condition. The undercarriage is extremely nice. "Original " floor pans, and the car actually cleaned up very nicely. The 350-4V runs excellent, and the transmission shifts as smooth as well. For more information or to schedule time to see this IROC Z just give us a call at 603-627-5595.
